Madrid is ringed by dry grassland, oak woodland and the pine forests of the Sierra de Guadarrama. In August 2025 a fire from Tres Cantos came close to the capital's northern edge, and in summer 2022 large parts of the Sierra Oeste burned.
This map covers the Madrid region and adjacent parts of Segovia, Ávila and Toledo.
Hotspots come from the VIIRS instruments on NASA FIRMS satellites (NOAA-20, NOAA-21 and Suomi NPP) and are cross-checked against Copernicus EFFIS. A hotspot is a heat detection, not a confirmed fire: industrial sites, solar farms and permanent burners are filtered out automatically.

Northern edge: Tres Cantos and Colmenar
