Western Andalusia around Seville is among Europe's hottest areas. Fires mostly start in the hills and parks around the city: in 2017 the Moguer fire threatened Doñana National Park and in 2020 a fire near Almonaster la Real burned more than 10,000 hectares in the Sierra de Aracena.
This map covers Seville, Huelva and western Córdoba and Cádiz.
Hotspots come from the VIIRS instruments on NASA FIRMS satellites (NOAA-20, NOAA-21 and Suomi NPP) and are cross-checked against Copernicus EFFIS. A hotspot is a heat detection, not a confirmed fire: industrial sites, solar farms and permanent burners are filtered out automatically.
