Wildfires in the Drôme – current situation

The Drôme is loved for its lavender fields, olive groves around Nyons and riverside campsites. Its southern half, the Drôme Provençale, has a Mediterranean climate with garrigue and oak, and increasing drought has brought more frequent fires, including in the Baronnies in 2022 and 2023.

This map covers the whole département, including the borders with the Ardèche and Vaucluse.

Hotspots come from the VIIRS instruments on NASA FIRMS satellites (NOAA-20, NOAA-21 and Suomi NPP) and are cross-checked against Copernicus EFFIS. A hotspot is a heat detection, not a confirmed fire: industrial sites, solar farms and permanent burners are filtered out automatically.
